About Jersey Mechanical Contractors, Inc.

In 1986, Robert J. Butler began doing business as Jersey Mechanical Contractors, Inc. With just a phone and a desk, he began bidding work as a small start up company in East Rutherford, NJ. Now over 25 years later, Jersey Mechanical Contractors, Inc. is one of the most respected mechanical contractors in the State of New Jersey completing every project professionally and efficiently.

After discharge from the Army, Bob followed in his father and grandfather’s footsteps pursuing a career in the mechanical contracting trades as an apprentice with Pipefitters Local Union 274. Once a journeyman, he learned how to get a job done quickly and efficiently. The owners of the companies liked this and he rose through the ranks becoming foreman, general foreman and field supervisor. Bob had the opportunity to pursue his lifelong dream of starting his own company when The Fred Wendel Company closed its doors. With the help and guidance of his friend and mentor, Andy Mihal, he began doing business as Jersey Mechanical Contractors, Inc. methodically bidding and obtaining more and more jobs growing the company.

While Bob was expanding the business, his son, Robert was developing his own mechanical contracting background through education and hands on experiences to take the business through the 21st century. Robert worked summers for Jersey Mechanical Contractors, Inc. digging ditches, running bids to bid openings, learning the business from the ground up. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from University of South Carolina. Robert came to work for Jersey Mechanical full time in 1996. He is a member of Plumbers Local 14 and has a Master Plumbers License. Robert is responsible for the complete operation of the company.

In 1998, the company was growing so Jersey Mechanical Contractors, Inc. moved to Farmingdale, NJ. At that time Bob’s daughter, Krista assumed the role of controller and office manager, ensuring that Jersey Mechanical has the administrative prerequisites to compete all projects efficiently and professionally.

Greg Dietrich, Bob’s grandson joined the company in 2011 upon graduation from Norwich University in Vermont with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Engineering Management. Greg is the sixth generation in the mechanical contracting business and the third generation working in the family business.
